Hello, my name is Heather. Welcome to Kricket Knits!

My love of knitting began in high school, but it was inevitable. All of the women in my family are, or have been, involved in the hand arts: cross stitch, quilting, knitting, tatting, rug making and sewing. I watched my aunt Donna, Mother, and sister Kelly create sweaters and scarves. During my junior year, I decided to embrace my legacy. My mother taught me the basic knit and purl stitches and I was off on my first knitting adventure. Casting On came a little later when I became convinced I should take time out to learn how.

After a few scarves, I ventured into socks. I was wild over socks and in college when I discovered my second love; ceramics. I love the feel of clay and the meditative concentration required to create wheel-thrown pottery. After graduation, life became hectic and I found less time for my pottery, but I did steal time for knitting. I could take my knitting to work, the movies and, best of all, road trips. While traveling in the Grand Canyon and Canyon Lands, we stopped at art galleries and local shops selling hand-thrown pottery. It was here that I had a vision, an epiphany — felted pottery. I was so excited that I knit-felted pot after pot until I created one that pleased me.

One epiphany led to another, I discovered that my favorite way to travel is the road trip. I love the feeling you get when you hop in the car and drive away. The city gets smaller as it fades in the distance along with thoughts of job and responsibilities. You are left with an overwhelming feeling of how big our world truly is and how much of it remains to be explored.

My goal is to encourage everyone to escape the mundane stress of everyday life. Get out and explore our wonderful world in all its glory. Even in your own city or town, there awaits a world of new experiences; a new hiking trail, a farmers' market, a class at the local college. I offer small projects to accompany you on the road, and to excite the adventurer inside.

Happy Knitting!
